I have recently been asked several times how and why I decided to buy a kennel. "Was it always a dream of yours?" Is what they would ask me. Well, sometimes in life things just happen and for me this is one of those things. It is really amazing when I look back at the decisions in my life that I have made and the steps that I have taken that have led me here to what and who I am today. Even with all of it's faults, my life is truly AMAZING in every way. Sometimes all it takes are a few steps forward and poof there it is, right there in front of you and all you have to do is reach out and grab it.
I have always in my life loved animals and I have had several from various species and breeds, but I never thought that I would have a career working with animals. I always took steps towards finance and accounting which flows through every vein in my body, thanks to my dad. I had pictured myself working in an office for a major company in the accounting department. My dad would tell me time and time again... "Heather, you need to work for yourself and be your own boss. It's a much better life style for you." My dad is not referring to a financially better life style, but actually far from it. Being a small business owner is NOT a get rich quick, or even slow in a lot of cases, trick. But what it does give you is freedom from being told when and how or what you will be doing. Yes, I am tied down to my kennel but I do it because I want to and not because someone else tells me too and I am doing what I love to do in every way. I have the ability to help people and animals and that is such an amazing feeling. I can hardly call this work. I do not wake up each morning thinking; "Awww man I have to go play with the dogs again." The dogs make me smile every day with the unconditional love that they give to us humans sometimes with very little time together.
I was deployed with someone once who when you asked him "What's up?" he would say "Just chasing the dream." To all of you who are reading this who have dreams that you are chasing reach out and grab that doggone thing. Whatever that dream is ask yourself "What is the next step towards my dream?" Then go out there and take that step. Even if it a small step it is still a step and it is still moving you forward and that just happens to be the direction that you want to go in.
I made a decision one day while I was deployed in Kuwait that I was going to take my dads advice and buy a business. I remember that moment and in that moment my life changed forever and I couldn't be more happy with that decision.

Two Exciting New Things
# 1
We now have items for sale!!!! We have homemade dog treats
made with love by my Aunt Marilyn. She bakes dog treats and names them after
each of our family pets. We have several pets in the family but maybe someday a
treat can be named after your dog. We also have Pur Luv dog treats and some
ceramic figures for sale as well. Try a free sample on our desk for your next
visit.

We set up a fish tank!!!!! How exciting and relaxing to
watch!!!! We set it up right outside the cat window so that our feline friends
can sit and watch the fish swim around. Right now we only have a few fish but
once it gets going and the water is stabilized we will add more fish for them
to watch and for all of you to enjoy as well.

New Beginings
Well, I guess it is about time that I fill everyone in on our MAJOR life’s events. As you all know I had deployed to Kuwait and JC had deployed to Iraq . Both of us being deployed had caused us to rent out our home and thus upon our return we had to stay with my dad for about 4 months. It was a full house and stressful at times but worth the end result. JC and I are now proud new owners of Pine Ridge Pet Resort & Grooming Center . Just prior to leaving Kuwait I had initiated contact with a business broker who took me a lot more seriously once I made it back to the states and could talk to him in person. With the support of JC and my Dad I have become a small business owner and my life has changed in every sense of the word. This probably seems crazy to a lot of people but to JC and I it is very normal for our lives to change drastically and at a very fast rate. We now live in a new city , in a new home and with a new business. Crazy and busy are understatements for us.
Pine Ridge Pet Resort was built in 2001 by Lynn Berryman. She has spent countless hours to build this kennel into the wonderful kennel that it is today. The kennel is fully operational as it stands now. The kennel is exceptionally clean and well kept. There is space for us to expand on the existing operations to include our many ideas and dreams; one of which is to sell dog treats and dog clothing made by my Aunts Marilyn and Joanne (Taz’ Pride). I can’t wait to get there products in our lobby for our customers to see and try. The next idea that is getting most of our attention is the addition of a dog park in the surrounding 10-12 acres. It is my goal to get this up and running by this summer. Customers have been responding well to the idea and I cannot wait to get started with it. We hope to open it with a grand opening party that everyone will be invited to. We want to set up booths for local shelters, pet stores and vet clinics to set up stands with their products and services. We basically want it to be a big party for all pet lovers alike.
Welcome to our new beginning!
